STIFF COMPETITION: WHEN POLITICS MAKES FOR STRANGE BEDFELLOWS

Planned Parenthood Western Pennsylvania’s Action Fund (PPWPAF) announced its sixth annual fundraiser—Stiff Competition: When Politics Makes For Strange Bedfellows—and issued a call for artists to submit works of art based on the theme. The only requirement for submission is creative interpretation of the theme. More information can be found online at http://www.stiffcompetition.org. Artwork can be submitted directly to Planned Parenthood offices at
209 Ninth Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, and there is no entry fee. Deadline for entries is Friday, May 14, 2004.

The art will be featured in an exhibition at The Andy Warhol Museum on June 2, 2004, and auctioned off to raise funds and awareness for PPWPAF. A panel of judges, including Mattress Factory Director Barbara Luderowski, Three Rivers Arts Festival Director Elizabeth Reiss, Concept Art Gallery owner Sam Berkovitz, Mendelson Gallery owner Steven Mendelson and Pittsburgh Public Theater Artistic Director Ted Pappas, will select one design that will be reproduced into actual condom packages. Honorary co-chairs for this year’s event are Pennsylvania State Treasurer Barbara Hafer and Izzazu International Salon owner Emilio Cornacchione,

Additional information about the event, the judges and previous winners can be found at www.StiffCompetition.org <http://www.stiffcompetition.org/> . All proceeds from the competition and gala benefit PPWPAF, an independent, not-for-profit organization formed as the political arm of Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania. Established in 1992, PPWPAF engages in educational and electoral activity including issue education, grassroots organizing, public opinion research, lobbying, and independent expenditure campaigns.
