Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra April 29 to May 2,
2004 Manchester's Craftsmen's Guild 412-322-0800 www.mcgjazz.org
"In 1999, the
Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra was named the resident jazz orchestra for the
Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Orchestra is the host ensemble for the
eminently popular summer jazz series at the Hollywood
Bowl... CHJO, co-led by
John Clayton, his brother, reed player Jeff Clayton, and drummer Jeff Hamilton,
has received critical and commercial praise generated by their rousing concert
and festival performances and award-winning recordings. CHJO's Grammy-nominated
recording, Groove Shop, was named one of the best recordings of 1990 by CD
Review. The Jazz Orchestra's recording, Explosive (Qwest), with legendary
vibraphonist Milt Jackson, received excellent critical notice and rose to the
top of the radio
charts
Talib Kweli - May 13,
2004 - The World (Formally Rosebud)
8pm Talib Kweli is the thinking man?s hip-hop star. He
views his music as literature in the most traditional sense: as a completely
engaging way of communicating ideas. In the wrong hands, that cerebral take on
hip-hop could be heavy handed and dull, but Kweli?s music is clever, astute,
challenging and completely entertaining ? everything good art should
be.
