Apr 29, 2004 - The Warhol Announces New York Exhibition and New Publication

ON ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY, THE ANDY WARHOL MUSEUM PRESENTS NEW PERSPECTIVES ON WARHOL WITH NEW YORK EXHIBITION AND NEW PUBLICATION

(Pittsburgh, PA) . . . April 29, 2004...On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, The Andy Warhol Museum announces a special exhibition at Ronald Feldman Fine Arts in New York City, opening June 10, 2004 to coincide with the new publication, Andy Warhol: 365 Takes: The Andy Warhol Museum Collection published by Harry N. Abrams Inc. The exhibition, entitled, Takes and Outtakes from The Andy Warhol Museum will feature artworks and archive material from The Warhol's collection and will be on view at the gallery June 10 through July 30, 2004.

Says The Warhol's director, Thomas Sokolowski, "On the occasion of our 10th anniversary, we're pleased to celebrate Warhol's legacy by presenting a fresh perspective on his oeuvre."

The Warhol's partnership with Ronald Feldman Fine Arts for the presentation of Takes and Outtakes from The Andy Warhol Museum is a natural one ― from the late 1970s, Ronald Feldman was the primary publisher of Andy Warhol's prints. Included in the exhibition will be well-known artworks from The Warhol's collection, as well as sculptures, prints, film stills and archival photographs that have rarely been shown outside of the Museum's galleries in Pittsburgh. Highlights include: a 1985-86 Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat collaborative sculpture entitled, Ten Punching Bags (Last Supper), 18 suicide news photographs from Warhol's personal collection, movie posters, and film stills from the rarely-seen Warhol films, Lupe, Imitation of Christ and others.

Coinciding with the June 10 opening of the exhibition at Ronald Feldman Fine Arts will be the publication of the new book, Andy Warhol: 365 Takes: The Andy Warhol Museum Collection, (hardcover, $29.95, published by Harry N. Abrams Inc.) an unprecedented and distinctive book that serves as an introduction to, and a handbook for, The Warhol's extensive permanent collection. The book combines Warhol quotes and lively commentaries by the Museum's staff, with 365 illustrations of paintings, prints, drawings and archival materials.

As part of the continuing celebration of its 10th anniversary, May 2004 through May 2005, The Andy Warhol Museum will also present the following exhibitions in Pittsburgh: Flowers Observed, Flowers Transformed, May 16-September 5, 2004, Andy Warhol's Time Capsules, October 3, 2004 through January 2, 2005, and John Waters: Change of Life, May 13 through September 4, 2005.

The Andy Warhol Museum receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.

Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the place of Andy Warhol's birth, The Warhol is one of the most comprehensive single-artist museums in the world. The Andy Warhol Museum is one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh.  Additional information about The Warhol is available at www.warhol.org.
