THREE RIVERS ARTS FESTIVAL

An Evening with Environmental Artist, Steven Siegel

Pittsburgh…Three Rivers Arts Festival presents An Evening with Environmental Artist, Steven Siegel Wednesday, June 2 from 6:30-8:00pm.  Hosted by Future Tenant, 801 Liberty Avenue, Siegel speaks about his public art installation for the 2004 Festival and presents an overview of his work from the past 25 years.

Known for his enormous organic site-specific forms sculpted out of compressed newsprint, plastics, rubber, and other post-consumer materials, Siegel’s work focuses on the transition of resources, particularly where nature and culture collide. Located in Point State Park near its famous fountain and composed of locally recycled plastics, Siegel’s piece for the 2004 Festival interprets Pittsburgh’s landscape and makes viewers aware of their immediate environment.

An Evening with Environmental Artist, Steven Siegel, begins with a lecture and slideshow at 6:30PM, followed by an open Q & A session at 7:30PM.  Light refreshments will be served.

Future Tenant is a project of Carnegie Mellon University and The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, located in the heart of the Cultural District.  This art space, which features alternative exhibitions and performances by emerging artists from the CMU community and beyond, is managed by a team of students from the Masters of Arts Management program, a joint program of CMU’s College of Fine Arts and the H. John Heinz, III School of Public Policy and Management.

The Three Rivers Arts Festival, a 45-year-old tradition, bridges artistic style and _expression, mixing the contemporary visual arts with live music, theater and dance performances contributing to their year-round cultural commitment in Pittsburgh.  For more information please call the Festival at 412.281.8723 or visit www.artsfestival.net.
