Does anyone know any
tenors? My Volunteer Singing group just lost our
tenor. We are a friendship-based social group who rehearses and performs for
the teamwork, camaraderie and joy of music, not for money. We are a small

can offer free training in sight-singing for anyone interested. For more

Seeking Pianist /
Accompanist
Does anyone know any
pianists? My Volunteer Singing group needs an
accompanist. We are a friendship-based social group who rehearses and
performs for the teamwork, camaraderie and joy of music, not for money. We
are a small semi-professional choral group, who sings in nursing homes,
shelters, etc. I can offer free training in sight-singing for anyone
interested. A small stipend may be possible for the accompanist on
occasion, but for tax, copyright, and ideology reasons, we prefer a
volunteer.

Join us in the Friendship neighborhood of Pittsburgh to welcome Kate
McDonnell Sunday, May 30
4:00 p.m.
Kate McDonnell is a
singer-songwriter and an upside-down and backwards
guitarist. Fearless and funny on stage, she's been wowing audiences
all her life with her heart-stopping voice and jaw-dropping guitar
work. And her songwriting has won her a few significant awards.
Recent highlights of her career include:
. 2004: Finalist in
the Plowshares Songwriting Contest
. 2003: Finalist in the Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest
. 2002: First-place win at the Mountain Stage NewSong Festival
songwriting competition, and subsequent appearance on the
international radio broadcast of Mountain Stage
. 2001: Performance at the Newport Folk Festival
Kate tours regularly in
the U.S. and in Europe and gets a healthy dose
of airplay on folk and Americana radio formats. Whether her theme is
love, politics or dogs, her songs unravel the human heart and strip
the pretenses off the world we live in.
Tom Paxton: "Kate
McDonnell's music has grace, intelligence, warmth,
and more. Go see her!"
Suggested donation $10.00,
all proceeds to the artist. Potluck supper
after the concert.

about
the a-list
The PAAI A-list was
created for the purposes of promoting the Penn Avenue Corridor, changing the
perception of its adjacent neighborhoods to a positive one, making you aware of
its revitalization opportunity and accomplishments, and helping the creative
community here on Penn Avenue grow. The PAAI reserves the right to promote
whatever it sees as a healthy connection towards meeting this goal. Priority for
editing and posting the A-list is always reserved for the promotion of Penn
Avenue Corridor artists, people and groups who partner with us, as well as
friends who do things for us in return. If you sent us something and didn’t see
it included in our A-list, it is either because we didn’t receive it, received
it late, it was just way too long to read and edit, or because it was not news
in some way shape or form related to the Penn Avenue Corridor. So please when
you send us something, if it isn’t obvious, tell us how it connects to Penn
Avenue. If we miss a week, it’s because we are too busy serving the customers
mentioned above to send out the events list. So please be patient.
If you really would like
to be on our A-list, you may want to consider moving to our community and
getting involved. Help us continue doing great work, and we will be happy to
promote you with a smile! Otherwise, there are numerous other weekly email lists
you can be part of. Don’t get us wrong . . . our intent is in no way to create a
closed community, a club, or an “in-crowd.” In fact, the Penn Avenue Arts
Initiative was created to do the opposite – to bring together all our neighbors
and to build on the diversity of the corridor. We also want to do you a service
by not replicating information you get on others lists. That way, you don’t get
tired or frustrated of reading the same stuff over and over and stop reading the
A-list all together. Our hope is that you find the A-list a service and, in
fact, help us promote our little special arts-related niche in Pittsburgh, so
that when you think of Penn Avenue and the arts, you will choose the A-list to
get the latest news.
To post information that
is arts-related and relates to the Penn Avenue corridor on the A-list, please
email it to
pennarts@friendship-pgh.org by Tuesday - 9AM of the week you would
like to see it posted. Please include the following information in this order:
the Date, Event Title, Event Location, Contact Info, and Brief Description of
Event.
