RAUL MALO of THE MAVERICKS

First Show Sold Out, Second Show Added

PITTSBURGH…Due to popular demand, CD Live! has scheduled an additional performance for Raul Malo of The Mavericks.  Malo performs with special guest Holly Williams, Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at Dowe’s on 9th, 121 Ninth Street.  The show begins at 8:00 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets are on sale now for $20.00 and can be purchased at The Box Office at Theater Square, by phone at (412) 456-6666, or online at www.pgharts.org.  Malo’s performance on October 20th is sold out.

Last March, Malo’s Grammy-winning band The Mavericks performed at the Byham Theater to a sold out crowd.  He returns to Pittsburgh this October for an intimate solo performance.  Originally making his mark in the country music world and then slipping into the Latin and jazz arenas via rock & roll, Raul Malo has proven to be an ever expanding musical talent.

Born in Miami of Cuban parents, Malo spent his high school years playing bass guitar in several small bands before forming the Mavericks in the late 1980s as the group’s lead singer and songwriter. When the band went on hiatus in the late 1990s, Malo pursued a solo career, releasing his first solo album, the Latin-infused Today.

Though he reunited the band in 2003, Malo still maintains his successful solo career.  His latest release The Nashville Acoustic Sessions features Pat Flynn on acoustic guitar, mandolin and vocals, dobroist Rob Ickes and bassist Dave Pomeroy.

CD Live! widens the creative _expression of the Pittsburgh music scene while advancing the artistry of musicians from around the world.  This collaboration of non-profit organizations formed to build new music audiences and to welcome these listeners to the Cultural District.

The Three Rivers Arts Festival, a 45-year-old tradition, bridges artistic style and _expression, mixing the contemporary visual arts with live music, theater and dance performances contributing to their year-round cultural commitment in Pittsburgh.  For more information please call the Festival at 412.281.8723 or visit our website www.artsfestival.net .
