Born
in Miami of Cuban parents, Malo
spent his high school years playing bass guitar in several small bands before
forming the Mavericks in the late 1980s as the group’s lead singer and
songwriter. When the band went on hiatus in the late 1990s, Malo pursued a solo
career, releasing his first solo album, the Latin-infused Today.
Though
he reunited the band in 2003, Malo still maintains his successful solo
career. His
latest release The Nashville Acoustic
Sessions features Pat Flynn on acoustic guitar,
mandolin and vocals, dobroist Rob Ickes and bassist Dave
Pomeroy.
