Consistently developing and
stretching the concept of what "jazz" music is or what really constitutes a "jamband,"
Jazz Mandolin Project and The Slip are bringing a special sharing of the
headline light to the stage at Mr. Small's Theatre. JMP, having just released
their brand new disk Jungle Tango (check out this
link for Jamie Masefield's song-by-song details of the album), are prepped
and ready to bring their innovative take on the mandolin and music back to
Pittsburgh. The trio can capture the touching tones of jazz legend Bill Evans
while jumping seamlessly into drum 'n' bass infused crunch within a song.
Joining them are another trio of intrepid sonic adventurers, traveling the
innermost heartfelt realms of ballad to the spaced out avant-garde darkness.
When you hear The Slip, you hear three people asking you to listen, without
prejudice, to see what happens.
Getting things started are one of
the most awe-inspiring young acts to come around in a while. The five-piece
known as Lotus, self-described as Organic Ambient Trance Funk, present a lush
sweeping sound with a solid beat rolling throughout. Perfect for fans of
Sound Tribe Sector 9, The New Deal, and the Disco Biscuits.
If the trio of bands weren't reason
enough to head out to Millvale, check this out:
