9. PAAIšs  5% Day at Whole Foods, Wednesday July 23rd.

Due to your feedback the PAAI will not be doing a major campaign for Unblurred, First Friday, July 4. Those of you still planning events at your venue, please email them to me and we will still promote via weekly e-list, which just broke over 1,200 recipients: we picked up a bunch at this weekend at 3 River's Arts Fest.

We have been invited to participate in Whole Foods 5% Day on Wed, July 23rd in the cafe. Therefore we will be focusing our efforts on a big promotional campaign there as our event for the month. All Penn Avenue Corridor Artists, orgs, and businesses are welcome to take part doing demonstrations, exhibiting, and distributing info. etc. ...whatever we can do to draw attention to the work we are all doing along Penn Avenue.

Questions? Call 412-441-6147 and speak with Jeffrey, PAAI Arts District Manager

When Video Came                      (color, stereo, 42min, c 2003)

When Video Came is a fascinating look at the history of video art from the critical perspective of seminal media artists in the U.S. Visually stimulating, this documentary portrais the development of the technological image and its influence in our culture as well as the complex relationship that exist between the independent producer and the established mass-media. Sharp testimonials and ad-hoc visuals raise important questions about the role of the individual in a culture dominated by broadcast monopolies that promote an alarming unilateral view of the world.
This video is also a call for a media aware society and the creative empowerment of our citizens

Featuring:  John Hanhardt, Martha Rosler, Dara Birnbaum, Chip Lord, Bill Viola, Mary Lucier, William Wegman, Antonio Muntadas, Gene Youngblood, Doug Hall, Margot Lovejoy, John Sturgeon, John Sanborn, Woody Vasulka, Pier Marton, Lynn Hershman, Coco Fusco, Steina Vasulka, Skip Sweeney, Jeanne Finley, Paul Glabicki, Bill Judson, Joan Logue, George Kuchar.

Directed and Produced by:
Andres Tapia-Urzua (of Highland Park) and Ralph Vituccio
