month. This month enjoy a video screening of two upcoming MF artists performing
in the collaborative group Forcefield.

SKYSPACE VIEWINGS
Opening Early and Keeping the Lights
on Late
Friday, June 27, 2003
The Mattress Factory will
open early and keep the lights on late on June 27 for visitors to enjoy one of
the installation pieces in the James Turrell: Into the Light exhibition.
Skyspace, an outdoor piece built for viewing the sky and atmospheric
changes is most dramatic to view during sunrise and sunset.
Sunrise
viewing: 5:15 - 6:45 AM
Sunset viewing: 8:00 - 9:30 PM
No advance registration
is required. Cost is suggested museum admission ($8.00 Adults; $5.00
Students/Seniors; FREE for members and children under
12). Skyspace is the only artwork that visitors can access during the
extended hours. However, "admit one" passes will be distributed for a visit to
the full exhibition.

THE ART OF
SOUND: Family Workshop
Sunday, August 3
1 - 3 PM
$5 per person
Participate in art,
movement and composition activities, as you explore sound, color, shape and time
in the work of musicians and artists-in-residence from the Mattress Factory and
the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble. This interactive workshop culminates in a
sound scavenger hunt and collective performance in the museum's Garden, a living
installation that features natural and recorded sounds.

Saturdays getting into art together at the Mattress Factory!
Experiment with installation art
and creativity at ART LAB. Visitors of all ages are invited to participate in
engaging art-making projects that illuminate the creative process of
in-residence artists from around the world. Step inside multi-sensory works of
art to search for mirrored rooms, glowing shapes of light and color, a chair
hidden in a garden, running water, sounds of wind chimes, a 13-foot concrete
sculpture, movable beds, and much more! Choose from an array of mixed media
projects that highlight the museum's special exhibitions and permanent
collection.
Art Lab Projects for June through August 2003 include: Winifred
Lutz: Urban Garden Books; James Turrell: Light Box Installations; Yayoi Kusama:
Dots in Space; and Art You Can Get Into: Designing Your Own Installation.
