PUBLIC PROGRAMS AT THE WARHOL: NOVEMBER
(Pittsburgh, PA) . . .September 29, 2003

EXHIBITIONS

November 22, 1963: Image, Memory, Myth
In collaboration with The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, Dallas,
Texas
November 22, 2003 through March 21, 2004

To coincide with the 40th anniversary of the assassination of President
John
F. Kennedy, November 22, 1963: Image, Memory, Myth presents the events
of
that fateful weekend and the myth of the JFK era as it unfolded through
photographs, media coverage, home movies, eye-witness testimonies,
evidence,
investigative committees' reports, and ensuing conspiracy theories.
From the
memorable image of a young John F. Kennedy Jr. saluting his father's
casket
to the grainy stills of the infamous Zapruder film, images of the
assassination have left an indelible mark on America's collective
memory.
Through the interpretations of journalists, historians and artists, the
exhibition examines how the power and drama of these images have shaped
our
understanding of the event and its impact. Also included in the
exhibition
are Andy Warhol's iconic portraits of Jacqueline Kennedy * the grieving
widow, who was determined to ensure that her late husband's legacy
would
live on by crafting the myth of a presidency so idealized that it was
called
Camelot.

Brakhage. For two days in July of 1976, Brakhage and his camera toured
Colorado with Governor Richard Lamm as he traveled in parades with his
children, appeared at dinners, lectured, and went about his daily

resulting photography was edited into a film that weaves through
multiple
superimpositions into a study of light and power.
An Injury to One (USA, 2002) Beta SP, color/sound, 53 min., directed by
Travis Wilkerson.
Wilkerson's film provides a glimpse into a particularly volatile moment
