A large mural honoring peacekeeping efforts in the Garfield, Bloomfield
and
Friendship communities will be painted this summer on the side of a
building
on Penn Avenue. This mural is part of a Sprout Public Art pilot
program,
which will put seven more murals in other Pittsburgh neighborhoods
(including the Hill District, Wilkinsburg and Millvale) this summer.

The mural will be painted in the name of Sidney Barlow, a Garfield
community
member who lost his life in 1999 when he attempted to break up a fight
following a Thanksgiving football game.

Four artists will exhibit their preliminary mural designs at the Quiet
Storm
at 10AM on Saturday, May 31, 2003. You are invited to vote for the
design/artist you feel will best represent community peacekeeping
efforts as
well as your own ideas.
