FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE NEW YINZER TO SEEK ADDITIONAL STAFF
HOLDS OPEN HOUSE TO RECRUIT VOLUNTEERS IN PUBLISHING, PROMOTIONS, AND EVENTS

20 May 2003 ... The New Yinzer — a magazine online for the city of
Pittsburgh — is looking to hire upward of six new staff members to take
over the production of its magazine, storybooks, and community events. The
hirings come out of recent decisions by The New Yinzer’s co-founders to
move into positions that will prevent them from working in their current
capacities. To find candidates, the organization will hold an open house
on Saturday, May 31 at 2:00 p.m., presenting those interested with the
structure of the organization moving forward and the respective positions
that need to be filled.
The New Yinzer hopes to have all positions filled by the end of the
summer. In August, Co-Founder David C. Madden will leave Pittsburgh to
enter graduate school. Also at that time, Co-Founder Jennifer Meccariello
will begin graduate study at University of Pittsburgh, in addition to
working full-time as the editor of Whirl magazine. Meccariello will stay
on as director of the The New Yinzer, providing counsel and guidance, and
Co-Editor Margaret Emery will remain in an editorial role, but the
co-founders are looking for motivated and eager people around town to
take up the many facets of the organization and call it their own.
Editors will have full creative control, keeping with the aims and
mission of the organization.
Having published 23 issues in 17 months, The New Yinzer is hoping to
continue serving the region with a quality publication devoted to styles
of and approaches to writing not found elsewhere in town. Hence this open
call. “Ever since we began working on the magazine,” Meccariello says,
"Dave and I have found many gracious people who simply wanted to help.
It’s our hope that this goodwill is still around, and that we can find
dedicated people to carry on with the things we’ve begun and now
unfortunately have to let go.”
The open house will be held at Meet-Here.com, a meeting space located at
945 Liberty Avenue, Downtown. All are welcome. For more information, call
412.725.7918 or visit www.newyinzer.com.

About The New Yinzer
The New Yinzer is a magazine dedicated to enriching the literary landscape
of Western Pennsylvania by exposing its residents to new and experimental
forms of writing not found in other local fora and engaging them in an
educational discourse about that writing, while also providing regional
writers with a working classroom in which to cultivate their writing from
a fresh idea to a finished product. The New Yinzer first published online
at www.newyinzer.com on 30 January 2002, and was incorporated as a
non-profit company on 14 June 2002. It is funded, in part, by the Sprout
Fund.
