Known for his performance in the hit movie ŒDance With Me,¹ Ricardo Lemvo and Makina Loca take Afro-Salsa to an exciting level.  The concert is the first in the Afro-Cubano series, a project designed to highlight the African influence on Cuban art and culture and Cuba¹s equally important influence on African music.  The performance builds on the growing number of musicians from the African diaspora who have made their way to Pittsburgh this year, including Ibrahim Ferrer, Habib Koite, the Soukous Stars, and Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks. Fri Jun 20^th - Ancestral Afro-Jazz with Djema Bosawa and the Afrika Yetu group. Indigenous African's legendary musical sensation, Djema Bosawa, keeps her tradition and folk roots from her homeland in the deep rain Equatorial forest untouchable. Growing up in the middle of the nature symphony in the jungle, inspired by the wild bird voices, giant trees and flowing rivers, Djema has something to sing about. Her career continues to soar, the demands for performances from countries round the world continue to flood in. She has toured intensively all over Africa, Europe and USA and has been always successful leaving the audience in frenzy. Djema and the Pygmy's music invokes the high and low-pitched melodies of African singing and yodeling which influenced many worldwide musicians including John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock and Zap Mama to name the few. According to the artist herself, those ancestral songs are about "unity, education, work, love, and society."
