Our goal is to promote collective creativity through a fluid intersection of people, places, ideas and vibrations. In doing so, we seek to connect independent arts and culture to the urban development of Pittsburgh and unlock the potential energy through the poetry of people in motion....

Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba: Memorial Project Vietnam features two recent films by the artist: Towards the Complex For the Courageous, the Curious and the Cowards (2001); and Happy New Year Memorial Project Vietnam II (2003). Nguyen-Hatsushiba was born in Japan, educated in the United States, and now lives and works in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. His poetic works explore Vietnamese identity, political memory and cultural tensions between the old and new. Action in both works takes place underwater, with vivid imagery, saturated color, choreographed movement and hypnotic soundtracks. Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson, Phyllis Wattis MATRIX Curator at the University of Californias Berkeley Art Museum, curated the exhibition. Rudy Shepherd: Affirmative Actions highlights a collection of works culled from the artists experience of the last three years, full of unanswered questions, special moments and the humdrum of everyday life. Shepherds recent credits include exhibitions at Skowhegan School of Art, the Southeastern Center of Contemporary Art and a residency at PS1. The exhibition at the Miller will also include a public art project, the result of a collaboration with youth from a Penn Avenue Arts Initiative program. Construction Junction, a building materials salvage business in Point Breeze, PA, generously provided construction materials for the project. Rudy Shepherd will give a tour of his exhibition on Saturday, September 6, 2 p.m.Fri Sept 5th - the warhol: The Evening Factory

The Brew House Association presents international recording artists from Holland: The Ex. ''Starting out as an anarcho-punk band from Amsterdam and Wormer, The Ex has developed over the years into a melting pot of divergent musical styles, interweaving noise, folk, jazz and ethnic music, under one unique umbrella: Ex-music. Other features are the discordant, highly rhythmic guitar work, the rolling almost African drumming style and the furious way in which Sok delivers his often sarcastic lyrics. In the first few years The Ex denounce political and social evils in their typical black and white manner, and its members, active in the squat movement, come across as genuinely driven and committed individuals. They set a significant example for the alternative music circuit by the manner in which their records, accompanied by posters, booklets and other relevant readings, are released and distributed by the group itself.Mon Sept 8th - Monday Talk-Talk!!

City Councilman Peduto has put together a fellowship program that begins to establish a precedent to address these concerns-it's called the Guyasuta Fellowship. What it sums up to be is an opportunity for someone like myself to be a part of the process - actually, with your help, for all of us to really establish a process that we can participate and be engaged in from the very beginning. You are being asked to help create suggestions for initiatives that we would like to see happen, before those initiatives have been set. It's about collaborating with each other to create and set an agenda for others to follow not the other way around. So, I'm coming to you, my peers, to help me come up with ideas that I can present on our behalf to council and other community stakeholders about what we need and want to see happen in our neighborhoods. This would be our initiative/proposal to council-not just mine or some outside consultant's - it would be ours. The area I'm asking you to help out with is community development. We all live in a community-some of us rent, some of us are homeowners, own a business or would like to--, so what are your thoughts about how to revitalize and strengthen those communities? How would you define community development, and what are the primary components that you see as primary contributors to a strong community development strategy? What do you see as strengths and weaknesses of how the city goes about implementing and providing for opportunities to reinvest in those communities? What would facilitate us to become stakeholders of a community? What is your vision for the future of community development?Tues Sept 9th - Chinese Opera: Monkey King.

Filmmaker Tony Buba will present a special 15th-anniversary screening of his acclaimed 1988 documentary Lightning Over Braddock: A Rustbowl Fantasy at the monthly independent film and video series Film Kitchen. Lightning Over Braddock follows a filmmaker (Buba) whose success chronicling his declining mill-town home distances him from the very roots he chronicles. The film, a kind of ""exploded documentary,"" combines fiction, fantasy, footage of real events and experimental techniques to place Buba's story against the all-too-real backdrop of 1980s mill closings and the accompanying protests and political rallies. Lightning Over Braddock, featuring appearances by subjects from Buba's earlier films about Braddock, screened internationally to wide acclaim for its humor, social conscience and innovative style; this will be its first local screening in more than five years. Buba is himself internationally renowned, with dozens of awards and exhibitions in festivals, museums and universities.Tues Sept 9th - OAR, The Roots, Talib Kweli, NERD, The Family Band and others

Farewell My Concubine,"" a tragic tale of love and devotion, is the play featured in the award-winning film of the same title. The time is 207 B.C., toward the end of the Warring States period, when two factions vie for ultimate control of the entire land. At the wild hilly site of Gai-xia, the King Xiang of Chu is ominously surrounded by the large army of his arch-rival, Liu Bang. The play opens with the king, in his encampment under siege, recounting the humiliating battle to his favorite imperial consort, Lady Yu. Yu consoles him by serving him wine and imploring him to take a rest. As he retires to the back camp, she goes for a walk under the desolate moonlight to ease her mind. As she strolls along, she hears songs of her native Chu from the Han encampment. She hurries back to report this to her king. At the news, the king realizes that his front line has been broken down and his people captured, and that he and the small army accompanying him are now alone and facing destruction. Lady Yu reassures him that he will prevail, but his anxiety soon turns to despair when one of his generals comes with a message from the enemy leader predicting Xiangs imminent defeat and death. In her attempt to distract him from the dire situation, Yu performs her famous sword dance. When the dance is finished, the Han army is reported to be quickly approaching. The king urges Yu to flee, but she chooses to kill herself with his sword. The play ends with the heartbroken king holding his lifeless beloved.Wed Sept 10th - The Malarkies w/ Scout Nibblet & Kevin Finn
